Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
What can I do? I have him in a large kritter keeper with moss on the bottom and artificial plants throughout it for climbing. I have a bowl of water with a small clay pot in the center so anything that falls in it can get out. I toss in crickets daily and he never eats. I mist his enclosure daily. He's becoming extremely emaciated and won't eat. I'm really concerned and would do anything at this point to help him. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

How old is he, how long have you had him. How big is he and what is the size of your large kritter keeper. Tell us about your set up, temps, humidity, etc.

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
I had her in this, but furnished:
But I've just moved her into this:
It's kept between 75-85 degrees in here. 85ish during the day when the a/c is off, and 75 the rest of the time.
I have a water dish in there and I mist lightly once a day.
I have no idea how old she is, she's only an inch and a half or so, I'd say. I've had her a little under a month now I think.

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
Inch and a half is still pretty young. Maybe 6 months.
Is that substrate bark? And you said that you had moss before? Both are very likely culprits for impaction. Moss can get tangled around intestines, cutting off circulation and digestion, bark can get stuck, clogging up the digestive track.
Get rid of that substrate, and put in plain paper towels for now, laid flat. You want to make it as sterile as possible. Eventually you will move up to shredded coconut fiber. Its the safest substrate out there besides paper towel.
You need a hygrometer. Humidity is important, but too much can suffocate the frog as well. You want to aim for 50 - 70%. Get a good digital thermometer/hygrometer. You can get one at walmart or home depot for about $8.
He probably wasn't eating in the critter keeper because of stress. Not only was it way too small, they need to feel secure and that has mostly open sides. Cover the two sides of the new tank with newspaper or aquarium background. This will help your frog feel more secure in its new home.
Are you treating your water with de-chlorinator before misting and filling her bowl?
What was the clay pot made of? Was it glazed? What was the bowl made out of?

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
Thanks for the tips! You've been such a great help.
The substrate is dirt with some chunks in it. I'm going to be mixing some Eco-Earth in there as well. If that doesn't go well I'll try the paper towel thing, simply because I just spent $9 on that substrate and I don't want to throw it out JUST yet.
I'll definitely make my way to Wal Mart tomorrow after I get off work and snag a couple. I've been meaning to get some for a couple of my tarantulas as well.
My water is well-water, so it has no chlorine, etc. I use it for my fish and my tarantulas with no problem. (Tarantulas are sensitive to said chemicals so I'd probably have noticed a problem with the water) The clay pot had only been in there for about a week because I got tired of fishing dead crix out of the dish, but it was just a plain old terra cotta pot.
I'll definitely cover the sides. Hopefully she'll be happier.

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
The terra cotta may have been causing problems. If you have a dish that the crickets keep getting caught in, add a large river rock. I think you can get a bag at walmart for $.99.
Remove the substrate. You can put it back when she starts eating again, just store it in a ziplock bag. This will help you to see if she poops too. Fish the chunks out and go with the eco-earth.
I have 3 nice and healthy red eyes, so ask whatever questions you want. Security for them really is key. You may even want to cover up half the front for a week. She could use an extra cross branch and some thicker cover plant draped over it.

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
I bought a feeding dish for her and fed her some small mealworms I had instead of crickets. So far she's gobbled up 3 or 4 of those things. I guess crickets were tough for her, especially since the moss she came with was cricket-colored. I think we're going to be okay.

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
Is the terra cotta pot a new one or was it used for plants previously?

Re: Red-Eyed Tree Frog Won't Eat?
That's great news. The coco-husk will allow her to see the crickets better as well. Be sure you aren't feeding crickets that are too big. No bigger than the space between her eyes.

What kind of dirt are you using to mix with the coco-husk?
