White Things.
So I was feeding KJ (Whites Tree Frog) tonight and he had about five white looking things by his nose. They looked like a very tiny grain of rice. They were about 1/16 long. When I took them off I was looking at them and squezed them with my finger and they popped. I'm thinking maybe parasites? They weren't moving at all and were pretty stiff. Any thoughts?

Re: White Things.
Sounds like mites. They usually congregate near the face.

Ugh, I hope that's not mites.

Re: White Things.
Grrreeaaaattt =[ I thought mites were only black. I'll keep my eyes open, if I find any more I'll try and get some pictures of them. At least there in temp habitats while I'm working on their big home. They're also split up so it was a good time to notice them.

Re: White Things.
I've only ever had the black ones. But from what I've read there are white ones as well.
Might be something else though. Try and get a macro shot.

Re: White Things.
Pin-head crickets? Gnats? Look really closely.
I also have gnats/fruit flies breeding in my tank right now, but they leave the frogs alone and are actually eating the waste too. They don't harm the frogs, they are just annoying. The fruit fly larva are white.

Re: White Things.
Hmm I wonder if that's what it is? They weren't moving at all, I'll check up on him tonight and see if I can get a shot.

Re: White Things.
Get you a good magnifying glass for a closeup look at the things.
A photgrapher's loupe or jewelers glass works great!

Re: White Things.
Well I haven't found any yet so I don't know, I'll keep my eyes on the watch though.

Re: White Things.
The fruit fly larva do move around, although really slowly. Just keep an eye out. Look on any fresh poop you see.
