Since we have decided to keep Clyde, our very young Gray Tree Frog, I have some questions about his future and the tads we have growing in a separate tank.

My friend has a pond, and we are planning on releasing most of the tadpoles now that they have gotten bigger. (There are appoximately 30++ in the 20 gallon tank). We are pretty sure they are the same type (tree frog) as Clyde because they look darn similar to him in his early days - so I was thinking of keeping a couple (2) and adding them to Clyde's tank when they mature.

After I release the tads, Clyde will go into the 20 gallon tank and the 2 remaining tads will be moved into the smaller tank where Clyde currently resides.

What should I take into consideration before I start down this path? Since it will be a while before Clyde begins chirping (if he is male) I won't really know his gender. Is it ok to add younger tree frogs into the aquarium once Clyde has established himself? And what about gender - other than the more tadpole issue, are there any other issues to worry about?

The only thing you have to worry about is Clyde eating the other froglets. As long as he can't fit them in his mouth, they are quite OK to combine. If you want to keep 3 frogs, they will do just fine together but you will need a bigger tank than a 20 gallon. I'll suggest a 29 gallon, but even better would be a 37 gallon which is the same foot print as the 29, only taller. Adding them to the tank after Clyde has called it home is just fine. It doesn't matter about gender.
