Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
i,m currently lookin for a gun cabinet for my whites. the one that is cheapest is 5.5 feet high. probably 4.5 feet in the cabinet area, that shouldn't be a problem. but the floor area (outside dimensions) is only 22.25 inches by 13.25 inches. i currently have 3 whites but would like to eventually have 6. what are your thoughts should I save my money a couple months and get a bigger one? cause you know , once it's a frog house it's never gonna be a gun cabinet again!

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
I would shop around at second hand stores, sometimes you can find amazing buys like old hutches and stereo cabinets for super cheap.
Also garage sales are amazing. That way you get more bang for your buck.

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
that's what I always do!!! love rummage sales, st. vinnies, and of course goodwill. the one I found was in answer to an ad I put on craigslist. and it's only $75. but I would like to put in a water feature so now i'm thinkin maybe I should just stick with my 75 gallon tank.

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
I saw a home made gun cabinet once on Craigs list and am now kicking myself for not getting it. Roughy 100 gallons in space and made of solid wood. I think he wanted $50 for it.
Now your cabinet only measures 66 gallons (roughly) which is kind of a tight squeeze for 6 frogs.
Here is a great converter for cubic inches (length x height x width) to gallons.

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
liz, i always like seein the pics of your whites set up. thats what gave me the gun cabinet idea. i also have the 75 gallon tank which I think would be better for a water feature, but not as high as I think the frogs would like. did you have to do something to the inside of the door to protect the wood? if I got a gun cabinet, i'de line the 3 walls with plexiglass, but what do you do to seal the door?

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
you can use any water based sealer. There is no need to line the 3 walls all the way up with plexi. The water based sealer or coco-husk/greatstuff treatment would be just fine. If you want to do a water feature, just plexi where the feature would be. I pretty much just have the bottom 14 inches of my tank plexied off, and sealed with aquarium silicone.
Have you thought about putting your 75 gallon on its side?

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
or if you don't want to plexi, use a rubbermaid container for the water area...

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
pretty much with wood cabinets and frogs, you need to have some sort of plastic where it will keep in constant contact with water. Example, where the substrate is, or where a water feature is.

Re: Question About Whites Tree Frog Setup
well tomorrow i'm lookin at a different gun cabinet. it's a total of 73 inches high, but i'm guessing that the enclosure part is over 50 inches high. it's 18 inches deep by 50 inches wide. it also has sliding glass doors that lock. i think that sounds like a winner. boy I love that craigslist!
