Re: Golden Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

I've seen them at shows before, mainly the Hamburg show in PA. The Havre De Grace show might have them though, it may be worth a look. They're also known as "golden gliding frogs", among other "golden >insert word here< frog" combinations. They also are sometimes called the Asian tree frog, common tree frog, or four-lined tree frog. However, of all the various names for this species, the correct name is Java whipping frog. "Whipping frog" is the common name for the genus Polypedates, which they get from their habit of using the hind legs to whip the mucous around their eggs into a foamy mass that protects the eggs.

If you go to the Havre DeGrace show, wait a few months. They were really short on frogs and said that March would be a good time for frogs at the show.

Re: Golden Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

Cool, thanks. I plan on going to this upcoming show, but i'll have to remember there's a good chance I won't find any. The Sheets I found on them all say there fairly common in the pet trade, but yet have'nt seen them for sale online anywhere.

Re: Golden Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

i didn't see any for sale this past month, but it seems like their variety can change at a moments notice. They had lots of Poison Dart frogs, but hardly any tree frogs.

Re: Golden Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

yeah, at 100 bucks a pop I cant blame them for wanting to breed more poison darts. I think the Golden's look very cool though, and even when pet store's sell them they go for about $20, so they also seem affordable. I hope I see some, but if not i'll have to keep looking. Other than that I think it'll be nice to go to get idea's. See all the cool reptile's not quite as common at the pet store's.

Re: Golden Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

I don't think they were even close to $100 each. They were super tiny babies. I want to say they were $25 - $50?

Re: Golden Tree Frog (Polypedates leucomystax)

You can buy animals at herp expos for considerably less than what you would pay at a shop!
