fresh start on building a tank for future treefrog inhabitants

Day one. 37 gallon tank. The tank is laying on its back. Coat the back wall and half the sides with black sillicone. This makes for a simple view from the outside, and gives the Great Stuff something to stick to, since it doesn't like glass too well. This was really stinky.

Day two. Figure out where you want to put things. I kinda winged it since I'm not so good at planning. The item in the corner is 2/3 of a 2 liter of coke so I can have a plant up at the top of the enclosure. The fake rock stuff around it is simply "great stuff" the expanding insulation. Apparently when it dries, its non-toxic so it makes a good base. The bark is from a cork tree.

My husband getting an action shot as I put more bark, a piece of drift wood and more Great Stuff.

First round of construction is done. The tank is standing up properly now, and as you can see, it appears everything is floating in air. This is because under it I need to place 2 inches of rock for drainage, then have enough dirt for live plants.

OK, part two. Once the Great Stuff was all filled in, i trimmed up what expanded too much with a razor. Then I coated it with a brown sillicone and stuck coconut husk shavings too it. Yes in this photo it looks simalarly to throw up, but I assure you its not. White is Great Stuff, shiney brown is sillicone, and furry stuff is the husk. I also added the vines which finally came in the mail.

Weasley the cat was a big help.

Here is the tank with all the husk attached. Its sitting on a board covered with a towel for easy moving to upstairs when its time. You can see what started out as the 2 liter soda bottle in the left hand corner.

I'm at a stand still right now until there is a good and not freezing day. The rocks I got at home depot need to be rinsed off really good and I'm NOT standing outside in a cold rain to do this, which is what it is doing right now. Daylight would be good too.

Then dirt, plants, some grow time and temperature and humidity adjustments. then FROGS!

Thanks. I hope the frogs will be super happy. I'm not going to place them in this tank until I get everything right. I'll post more pics as soon as I get more done. I'm hoping to add plants this weekend.

A girl after my own heart! Looks a lot like the crestie tank I built a while back! I have a tank in the basement awaiting the next time the mood strikes me... Your project looks beautiful! You will have happy froggies! Are you planning to get White's tree frogs? Do they need a pond or water feature?

yes I'm going to get whites tree frogs. I read they simply need a shallow water dish to soak in that will need to be changed every other day/when needed with spring water.
