New Tree Frogs

My girlfriend's daughter was given a pair of White's Tree Frog by someone who bought them and then got bored with them. She didn't actually want them, but took them to get them away from someone who really didn't want them, and wouldn't take care of them. She gave them to me.

So now I have a pair of White's Tree Frogs in a substandard tank. I'm going to scratch build a custom enclosure for them. What I'm looking for is suggestions on features for said enclosure. Not construction techniques, I have that down pretty well. What I need is this...what do White's tree frogs need to be happy and healthy?

BTW-I'll post pics tomorrow.

Here's our caresheet: Whites Tree Frog Caresheet

From what i've read a 20g tank is about what you need for one adult...

I look forward to pictures!

I'm going to build an enclosure, rather than use a premade tank. Thanks for the link.

Yes, I gathered as much but I was just giving you a relative idea on the proper size.

Ok. What I'm mostly looking for are the internal arrangements.

My current plan is to expand upwards, using the current tank as the base. I'm going to build a wood and plastic sleeve that will sit on top of the current tank. The current mesh cover will go on top of the new sleeve. The front plexiglass panel will be removable for tank maintenance. The current tank dimensions are 10Dx20Wx12H. The new tank dimensions will be 10Dx20Wx30H.

I think I'm going to have to start feeding them separately. One is a little bigger than the other, and the bigger one appears to be getting the lion's share of the food right now.

Inside the tank you should have some plants, and branches for them to climb on and hide under. They also like a water dish that is big enough for them to stretch out in and soak for a bit. It shouldn't be more than 1.5-2 inches deep.
I would suggest keeping an eye on how they act in the set up to tell you if they would like more ground cover or more climbing space. Any other questions?

yup, lots of vines, branches, big leafed plants they can stick to without bending over. I read coco husk is a good compound for the dirt at the bottom.

Re: New Tree Frogs

These are failry heavy animals so:

--a pine bark or cypress mulch bedding;
--a relatively flat water receptacle--some aesthetic ones are now readily available;
--One or two vertical cork rounds--they may sleep in these during the day;
--one sturdy horizontal or diagonal branch;
--a plant. the easiest is golden pothos (eprimenum aureum), plant it in a clay pot (more porous) and hide it with mulch or a cork round.

Unless you need a background, you are done.
