Need Weekend Vacation Ideas
So, its our 5 year wedding anniversary in 2 weekends. We can't figure out what to do. It can't be something that costs a million dollars. We thought we had it all figured out. We were going to take a half day next friday and drive town to Assateague Island to see the wild ponies. Camping at the national park is only $16 a night and you are pretty much right on the beach. Then we figured we could take the money we saved from camping and go to a really nice dinner on Saturday (actual anniversary).
The beach sounded so nice. Sure its kinda chilly out, but I'm totally OK with that. There wouldn't be any crowds. The beach is 50 feet away. I read further on the National Park's website... COLD SHOWERS ONLY. Oh **** no. Not in March. July, sure. Not March. We can find a hotel for $90 a night but that limits us for dinner since its two nights there. There are other campgrounds, but not nearly as cheap and not nearly as natural. Sort of your cheezy kid entertaining camp ground. I may end up going with the hotel, but since I had my heart set on camping right at the beach, we may hold off till later in the year to go. So anyone else have any good weekend trips in mind? We entertained a place in VA about 5 hours away, an old war town with bed and breakfasts, but if anyone has been I a bed and breakfast, they are very quiet, thin walls, which isn't so good for, ahem, anniversary activities. We are looking for sort of outdoorsy type thing, beach area is good, but mountains are good too. Overnight stay Friday and Saturday. Should be no further than a 5 hour drive. I'm in Baltimore.

Re: Need Weekend Vacation Ideas
Hey, Liz, you could what we used to do when camping. Fill a bucket with water and heat until it's warm or hot and then take a quick sponge bath and wash the hair. If there are already shower stalls there, it makes it so much easier.
What place in VA were you looking into? Sounds interesting. There's always the mountains here, which have nice driving areas. You could do what the Alfa guys do when they come through and do a driving wine tour. There's a number of wineries in VA, and many have little restaurants that you can have a nice meal and taste some wines with. Personally if my car's up to it, I will be going to my friend's house this weekend and subsquently camping out at midnight to get a copy of Super Smash Brawl - and then the rest of the weekend will be spent playing it! ![]()

Re: Need Weekend Vacation Ideas
I say drive on over to Rich's place, take him and the little lady out for dinner with you.
I hear there's a great aquarium over there as well.

Re: Need Weekend Vacation Ideas
LMAO! Rich has snakes, we can't come visit. lol Thats the same reaction my inlaws have....which is great.
![]() The Boston Aquarium and Museum of science are great, but costly. lol I spent around $100.00 taking Angie and the kids earlier in the year. (That was just for the aquarium btw.) I say go with your original plan and just heat your own water. You can also buy a cheap "camping shower" and use that with your heated water. ![]() |

Re: Need Weekend Vacation Ideas
Why not compromise... camp Friday night, then Saturday morning move to the hotel (HOT SHOWER!!!) and still enough $$ for a nice dinner.
