combining an african spur thigh & a leopard tort

I have a leopard tort who is maybe 6 inches long and I have just built him a turtle table. I've come across a beautiful african spur thigh in one of my favorite reptile stores who is half the size of my leopard. The owner said I would have no problem mixing the two because they need the same kind of care such as temp. and food and housing. I know how to care for both, but my concern is how they will be together once they get to be a substantial size. I know the spur thighs get to be bigger then my guy and the point of me getting the new tort, is to keep him with mine. Any suggestions??

A rule of thumb is to never mix species. Like you mention, size difference could be a factor to be a problem. Sulcatas get so big, you actually need a room or the whole house to house them when they grow up....good luck with your decision...Lyn

I'm a fan of mixing species but there's very few animals I would have coexisting with a Sulcata.

Sulcatas are very dominant creatures and may not take lightly to having another species, often dislike each other within their environment. Both sexes often ram into everything, including me and an adult leopard is no match for an adult Sulcata; you will probably experience ramming once you place the Sulcata with your leopard..

Unless you have a very large enclosure be wise to pass up on this animal.

What every you decide to do, I just want to say that a sulcata will grow much FASTER than a lepord. The first couple years it may be small enough not to cause any trouble. But it will be big enough to intimidate your lepord very soon.

Pls correct me if I'm mistaken.

Thanks for all the advice, it's just so misleading when you go into reptile shops and there's huge torts living with small torts. It makes you think "if they can do it so can I. I never like listening to just one person so I appreciate all the help. I also don't want any harm to come to my little guy.
