Update on adopted/rescued baby & More news

I wanted to update everyone on the baby sulcata we rescued last week.

While we were initially excited and optimistic about her, we're now concerned about her overall health. She eats and moves very little, and has pooped just once. You know when you go to a petstore and see the baby sulcatas clamoring all over the enclosure? Well that's definitely NOT her.

Mom recently joined the California Turtle and Tortoise Club and went to Fresno for her first meeting (about a 2 hour drive). She received some very good advice while there. She was told to soak the baby daily for about 15 minutes which should help her absorb water, detoxify, and get things moving. She was also told to feed baby food veggies (or pureed food) for now. One woman advised her to add babyfood carrots to the bathwater so "Tiny" would absorb the vitamins too. Today when we got home from the herp show, we bathed her, placed carrots in the bathwater, and put butternut squash in front of her. She ate about three tablespoons of food!

Mom purchased a compact UVB lamp to use until the Mega Ray gets here next week. We're crossing our fingers that this sweet baby will make a full recovery!

ALSO... at the tort club meeting, Mom met a woman who has two females and needs to get new homes for them because she has to move. So we're probably heading back to Fresno tomorrow (Sunday) to get a GIRL!

AND... today at the herp show, Mom spent a lot of time at the tort club (San Luis Obispo chapter) booth, and found out that there are three large females (Stanley's size) that need homes, so next week Stanley will also have a new woman in his life. For those that don't know, about two years ago we lost his long-time companion, Camille, to illness... he's been very lonely since.

Pics to follow when the girls arrive!

You definitely need a name for the Tort ranch, something relating to the slow lazy occupants.

Nicole is right... the certainly can move when they want. It's not just a tort ranch though... over 100 parakeets, 8 cockatiels, 2 rosie burkes, 1 amazon parrot, 1 rabbit, about 20 cats, and 2 toy poodles... it's a full-on ZOO!!!
