Kelly you do not HAVE to. There are many captive and wild caught specimens kept as pets that never hibernate/brumate or have done so prior to captivation then never again. There have been talks that it may add to the lifespan but to my knowledge that has not been proven yet. If he's indoors, I would say keep him that way and care for him as you have been doing. When and if you decide to go the outdoor route you can determine then if hibernation/brumation is what you'd like to do.
