Update: Stanley, Alex, and Chloe

As you may remember, last June my dad rescued two 5-6 year old sulcatas and Stanley was recovering from a very nasty illness which had kept him "in residence" at UC Davis for about 3 weeks and dropped his weight to 75 lbs.

One of the things we learned by having Stanley at UCD was that sulcatas should NOT brumate/hibernate during cold months... their enclosures should be kept warm enough to keep them active.

And that's just what my folks did this winter... "pig blankets" to warm the floor, radiant heat panels on the ceiling, MegaRay UVB lamps, and PLENTY of GREAT food (collards, mustard, winter squash, and timothy hay).

Now, I don't have pictures yet, BUT in the past 6 months...

He's back up to 100 lbs!! AND he's grown 2 full inches (he's now 31 inches)!

Chloe was 17 inches when we got her in June and she weighed 21 lbs in September; NOW she's 19 inches and weighs 27 lbs!!

Alex (A.T. for Alex the Tortoise) was 17 in when we got him in June; he weighed 25 lbs in September... today he's 21 inches and weighs 40 lbs!!!

We're obviously VERY excited! Woot!! As soon as I can get to Mom's during the day, I'll get new pics of everyone.

Oh so nice to hear a happy story! That sounds wonderful!! Lots of time, effort, and love put into them! Congrats on the good work. Phew...... sulcatas........ like having three sets of twin 2 year olds, but so worth it!!
I was lucky enough to have one in my care for a whopping week until I transfered it to the Seattle Tortoise Society, however was one of the best weeks I have had!! Some day I will have one as a pet..............still dreaming! Keep up the excellent work, you and your dad!!

Great to hear Stanley is gaining weight and doing better, it was pretty touch and go for a while there. I can't wait to see some new pictures of the herd!

Congratulations Steph!
Maybe you can offset their vet bills by offering Tortoise Rides to the local kiddies!

Here are some pics of the torts, but it's hard to see exactly how big they are...

Stanley (note the lump on the left... that's from his feeding tube last winter)

AT & Chloe (I think he was annoyed that we woke him up)

Not the best pictures... Hopefully I'll catch them outside soon.
