has this happend to you
Cleaning his cage yesterday I noticed a little catapiller looking thing in Larry's cage well it was due for a cleanup. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you clean it once a month. Anyways the catapiller looking thing was like a reddinsh color tiny had hair and couldnt climb up glass. Soon after I noticed a lot more of these little critters moving about in the cage. And I even noticed a little magot looking thing in the corner of the cage. Has this happend to anyone else. And is it a problem to Larry. Oh and I was using Repta-Bark and some Bone-aid Calci Sand. Well Please help thanks

Sounds like the possibity of your substrate being infested....Try baking it in the oven before use....to kill any parasites in the stuff....Good luck..
It hasnt happened to me because I use newspaper as substrate for all my reptiles.....Lyn

About your bug problem....I would reccomend using a different type of substrate..have you considered astroturf? or even paper towels? I remember a while back when I used reptibark(im talking a good 2 years back) when I had my iggy I used that and it always got infested with some type of bug...I swiched to papertowels and it took care of the problem for good...
*errr lynnn you beat me XD*

I would also switch your substrate and definitely get rid of the calisand...It clumps when wet and if you tokay eats any of it it may cause an impaction.

I was getting those caterpillars a few months ago but not in my WD cage but in the cricket bin. They are beetle larva and they multiply fast. I ended up having to dump a bunch of crickets and start over on my breeding project. I know where I got them though, they hitched a ride to my house with the crickets I got from the petstore, from now on I check every bag of crickets I get from that petstore before I put them in the bin just in case there are more stow aways.
Good luck getting rid of the little buggers.

A tokay shouldn't be on calci-sand at all, they are a tropical species that requires high humidity....you should clean the tank really well and try replacing the sand with either bed-a-beast or paper towel, or carpet, or something else that can hold humidity.
To avoid having so many problems with weird bugs you should try to clean the tank weekly, with daily spot cleanings to pick up any poo or other debris.

It would be very bad if repti-bark came infested with bugs... Making a mental note to microwave that new bag a.s.a.p.

I got repti-bark for my ig (when I didn't know any better) and it was infested with little white mites. They were a mare to get rid of.

The Beetle thing I seen like two in the big crix that I bought they are tiny like a mix or a dark red and black sort of. They can fly and they ate the dead crix Is this the beatle you guys are speaking of. If so thats nasty. And is it bad if like one got out and you never found it.
