Hi tg.. firstly, a morph refers to the colour or pattern that a reptile is, for example when discussing Corn snakes there are different colourations and patterns according to genetic makeups, or "morphs" as they are known. Tokay geckos are just that - I don't believe there are different morphs. Your Tokay may brighten or dull down in colour a little as he grows in age but he won't completely change colour.

Secondly - we need to know a bit more about Larry: how old is he? How big? Where did you get him from? - i.e. a breeder/show/shop? What are you feeding him? Why do you suspect he hasn't eaten? - by this I mean, has there been any noticable faeces?, have you noticed a decrease in the food you have put in for him?, has there been any weight loss?.

If you seriously suspect he hasn't eaten then you need to assess certain factors: what are your temps? How are you keeping him? Perhaps you can make a noted figure of how many crickets you have put in for him and check on that number each day? Or try feeding him in a separate feeding tub so you can see more clearly if any food has gone (however, many lizards, particularly an intolerant species such as a Tokay, may not be willing to feed in a separate tub and is often better left to hunt in his own environment.)

At this stage I wouldn't be overly concerned - he is still settling into his new environment. My advice at the moment is to leave him alone to settle in properly - don't handle him, only go into his home to feed and change water etc, and keep his cage in a place where he won't be disturbed by too much noise or by too many people. It often takes a while for new animals to settle into new surroundings properly and many will begin feeding on just one or two food items and then eat more aggressively when they are properly adjusted.

What have you been feeding him? Have you tried varying the diet? Like bitis said, we need to know the temps too. Does he have alot of places to hide? Tokays are nervous lizards that need lots of hiding places.

There are a couple of different Tokay morphs, but they aren't very common or popular. If you google "Calico Tokay" you get a couple of results.

Ok to start with your temps are on the cool side - I believe Tokays need a basking spot of around 90F and a cool end of 75F -ish.

They need a varied diet of crickets, meal worms, wax worms and other insects along with pinkie mice. You also need to supplement the diet by covering the insects with calcium and vitamin supplementation.

Check out this website - http://www.geckonetwork.com/caresheettokay.htm - and search on the internet for various other care sheets to make sure you can find out as much as you can about proper care for this species.

He sounds like he is still quite young by the size of him - is this your first reptile?

They are born that way, and Bitis is right, you've got to get the temps up or the lizard wont eat. That is the problem alot of the time. Also how is the humidity?

Tg, I didn't suggest you didn't research properly before buying Larry, I'm sure you did. I asked if he was your first reptile because Tokays are not really a starter lizard. I appreciate that you've had an anole before, but this really doesn't prepare you for a more demanding species such as the Tokay - they are not generally handling lizards and can be quite an aggressive species.

Having said that, now you have him and I'm sure you will do fine by him. I think at the moment the lack of appetite is down to settling in and too-low temperatures. We all have to battle with outside temps interfering, but surely there's something you can do? - increase the wattage of bulb you are using, use in conjunction with a Under Tank Heater or change the heat source to a Ceramic Heat Emitter.. you must get those temps right or his health will suffer.
