Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
Alright I purchased 2 tokays the other day and I want to know if they're male or female. I'm pretty sure the bigger one is female but the smaller one looks like a male to me by what I have read on sexing.

There's the link. Hope you guys can help me.
BTW I plan or build a bigger, better Habitat for them tomorrow, any size suggestions?

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
How big and how old are your Tokays? Also, you haven't had them long, I wouldn't suggest holding them at all. They are really stressed out from moving and can get problems due to this. Judging by the exceptionally dark color, I'm gonna say yours is stressed. I don't think, though, that you can tell at a young age what gender they are. Judging from the picture, I see no femoral pores.
Also, for cage sizing, a 29-30 gallon tank is perfectly big enough for 1 male and 2 females. For one Tokay, a 20-high is the perfect size.

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
Well I plan on building my own and I was thinking 24x24x24. Do you think that would be big enough?

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
For two, that should be big enough. Just make sure you have a male and a female pair. IF they are two males, they will eventually have to be separated.
Also, how big are they? Are they 6 inches, or longer? I'm not sure how long they have to be usually before you can tell sex (not exceptionally good with Tokays yet), but I am sure someone here can tell you that.

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
The bigger one is about 10 inches long and I'm sure that one's a female. And the one in the pic is about 7-8 inches long. And this morning I found them cuddling under their housing. X] lol Is that normal?

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
I don't know if this is true info or not, but a lizard person told me to hold the lizard in your had belly down with tail at your wrist, lift the tail firmly up without breaking it and if there are two small bulges, it's a boy... I've had pretty good results with it so far. Usually reptile vets will sex em for you for a small fee too... And that's pretty reliable....

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
I will try this. I don't want to stress them to much because I just got them.

Re: Need Some Tokay Gecko Help
I would just watch them for now and make sure there is no fighting or dominance issues. Let them adjust for a couple weeks and if there are issues, separate them.
