Tell Me What You Think!
Ahoy!
I'm new to this forum and thought I would create my first post telling you all what I have set up for my new Tokay. `````````````````````````````````````````````````` ```````````````` Exo-terra 18X18X24 Two large pieces of tangled up drift wood. Bunch of cork bark. 2 plastic wall mounted plants Zoo Med Mini Repti-Therm Under Tank Heater Under Tank Heater on the back wall about where his hideout is. Zoo Med Fir Tree Repti bark substrate. Fluker's Digital Display Thermo-Hygrometer. Exo-terra water fall with Fogger. Exo Terra Glow Light -Small & Medium Exo Terra Heat Glo - 75 watt Exo-terra Night-glo 75watt 24/7 Digital Timer Power Center For my Tokays health I bought some of the following.. Natural Chemistry Healthy Habitat spray. Fluker's Liquid Vitamin Electrolyte Spray Formula. Tetra Terrafauna Reptocal Reptile Supplement. Zoo Med ReptiSafe Instant Terrarium Water Conditioner. `````````````````````````````````````````````````` ``````````````` Now, My Tokay has been with me for about 4 weeks now. At first he wouldn't eat & didn't move much..About 3 weeks later he shed and ate his skin. The day after that he ate 4 crickets. One thing that concerns me is that he is still pretty dark. Can you guys think of what's wrong? The temp is around 79-85 in the day with humidity reaching around 60% but drops alot so I had to mist alot. (I just got the fogger today so I hope that will put an end to that.) Thanks! P.S. Tonight my buddy is coming over to take some photos of my set-up..I'll post em tomorrow. |

Re: Tell Me What You Think!
I don't know much about Tokays except they are aggressive and get to be a decent size. I am posting though because I want to welcome you to HC and I look forward to the pictures!

Welcome to HerpCenter!
I am not up on Tokays but I can respond to a couple of things. Healthy habitat spray, I use with my big iguana. Great stuff! The liquid vitamin spray. Ditch it and go with a powder supplement. The liquid all runs off and you have no idea if any vitamins are getting to the lizard or not. I prefer the Repcal Herptivite myself. The calcium you are using has phosphorus and D3. You want pure calcium.

Re: Tell Me What You Think!
Thanks for the info! I actually already started using the powder just recently. I'll order some pure calcium asap! Is there a kind I can just add to the drinking water?
Oh, My buddy forgot his tripod last night so he didn't get any good pics. Guess i'll have to wait a bit more. |

Re: Tell Me What You Think!
Welcome To Herp Center. From what i've seen of tokays, you may also want to add a pair of sturdy leather gloves or a soft net to you list of items. ![]()

Re: Tell Me What You Think!
No. You use the calcium to dust the feeders.

Re: Tell Me What You Think!
You're going to have to check the waterfall more often if you've got a fogger running. I would know because I got a waterfall fogger myself and letting it run for more than 20 hours almost caused to dry out. I wouldn't let the fogger stay on for long hours unless you're home. I would check it about every 2 to 3 hours and if the water level is fine start waiting longer before checking till you find out how long it will go before the water level is just above the pump. I almost killed my pump using the fogger heh...

Re: Tell Me What You Think!
I have a Tokay and sometimes when he's going to shed his skin he acts like that, but a day or two after he shed it completely he acts normal again. Just keep feeding him regularly and in those days, try to maintain the humidity level and temperature. If you're trying to tame him, try use a pair of gloves, and LOTS of patience. When trying to pick him try not pick him from above, because he might scare and try to bite.
