I think Trouble is dying! please help =(

I noticed about a week ago he wasn't eating much...he looked ok, maybe lost alittle weight. He just shed also, but was acting normal..didn't look unhealthy~except maybe not as fat as he use to be...only a week?/??

so this morning I was doing the normal routine spraying the tank and giving him some water...and wetting the towels for humidity and he was in his usual favorate spot...the light was burned out though..so I gave him a Under Tank Heater to keep him warm until I got a new bulb.

Now there is definately something WRONG!!! He moved to the bottom of his tank and is barely holding on..his weight agains the driftwood and behind his dish! His foot is pretty much dangling only the front two holding on the glass. This is not good! He never does this! His back foot was even shaking some..his breath is even strange..I can see him take a deep breath every once in a while..not normal rhythmic breathing! I am so upset!

I had him for about 8 years or more. I rescued him from near dath and now I fear this is the end! I don't know what to do. i even tried to get his attention with a glove, but he didn't even try to bite it!! I know this is not good!

I am hoping possibly old age..and he was happy with me, but is there anything I can do? I didn't even realize he was so bad...he seemed fine until now...I don't want to loose Trouble...I love him..and his trouble making. I don't know how old he is..what do you all think? Is there anything I can do?

I don't know much about Tokays, but this definitely sounds like a case where you need to get him to a vet as soon as possible. You might want to take him out of his cage and put him in a small warm box on some paper towels or a rag if he needs moisture, so that you can keep an eye on how active he is.

I hope you find out what's wrong with him. Sorry I can't help out more.

ok, so I should put him in maybe my spare 20 gallon? The only vet I know who takes lizards in so busy...I hope they will fit us in and I pray he makes it through the night! I just don't understand what could be wrong!

oh man, (crying) I moved him to the 20...with mealworms fountain, and water bowl...with half log....but he is like have seizures! He tried to get away, but fell and startedtwitching....and he made his growl noise...kept his mouth open! I am freaking out now!. i put him on the Under Tank Heater under his log. I have a small 25 wat night glo on him. It doesn't look good for Trouble. I don't think he will make it through the night.

What could cause this?

OH so sorry to hear about Trouble Paige.....it just could be old age....combined with the fact he was almost near death when you got him. Keep him warm and comfy ...he knows he is loved...even if the end should happen...you did very well with him....my heart goes out to you....so hard to lose a pet.....

Re: I think Trouble is dying! please help =(

It is very hard to see him like this. I will have to keep praying for him. He isn't moving, but is gripping the paper towel I have him on. I take comfort in knowing he was taken care of these past 7-8 years with me...but I don't know what happened.

I thank you all for your kind words: you now what my dad said: "When he dies I wan you to get these tanks out of here" not to nice huh...I was keeping them there cause we are moving and they are in the process of finding room for them here...so I am back and forth right now (only acrossed the street~long story buy my fiance's parents house so it is cramped for awhile) but I am clearly upset and he says such heartless things...I guess he will never understand...I just can't beleive he would be such a jerk about it. The tanks are in a spare room, so it isn't in his way.

well my mom really likes the critters so she is pretty upset too. I was almost sick when I saw my poor gecko trembling like that..I have never seen anything like it.

I'm so sorry to hear about Trouble Paige. To my knowledge Tokays life expectancy is 7-10 years so it could be old age. Rest assured he knew he was loved.

Thanks so much everybody. I am trying to keep an eye on him but I don't want to stress him too much. It is hard to see right now cause I have it dark...I really hope he is going to be ok, but when I saw him shaking like that it just broke my heart...
