new toads
Got a few new guys recently and I thought I'd share. I went out field herping a few nights ago and caught an american toad (Bufo americanus) and decided to keep him, for a while at least. Then today my friend's neighbor found a toad in theit backyard and asked if I knew anything about them, so I went rambling on of course
Its a fowler's toad (Bufo fowleri). I named the american Spunk, cause he has a lot of it! I've never seen a toad so wired. By comparison, the fowlers is very chilled, hence his name, Chill. They live in a large plastic enclosure with sandy dirt and some plants and dechlorinated water. Other animals I've caught and kept since I moved here are a daring jumping spider, 2 oriental cockroaches, a blue-black cricket hunter (a large black wasp), 2 cicada killers (more large wasps), and a yellow jacket (another wasp). Tonight I also managed to catch a cottontail. Man, he was FAST! lol, but I got him eventually. You try catching a wild rabbit with your bare hands, it'll wear you out! I'll let him go tomorrow, just a young guy. I'd post pics of all the new stuff, but my webcam makes them in bitmap form and I don't know how to convert to jpegs.
