Now I need help! I looked in the tank today at the toads and now I have lots of tadpoles. I took out the tadpoles because I read some where that the parents will eat them, but now, what do I feed the tadpoles? I have the tadpoles in a small tank that has a land part for when they get older. Thanks all ...

Re: I Got Tadpoles

Welcome to the world of tadpoles! You can feed them a few fish flakes, algae wafers, crushed dried worms (fish food section) and some wilted spinach. Just don't put too much in. You are going to have to do a water change of about 1/3 the water every few days. They need clean, yet non-flowing water. A filter will most likely suck them in and kill them.

If you have access to a few water plants, put them in. It will give them a nice hiding place, as well as some algae to munch on.

When they start turning into toadlets, be sure you have something for them to crawl out of the water onto. You are then going to have to offer them really small prey, like fruit flies or pin head crickets. They won't eat from the moment they leave the water until they drop their tails, so don't fret if its a week that they don't eat.

Re: I Got Tadpoles

Tadpoles are so much fun to watch, I raised some when I was a kid. The advice Liz gave you is dead on. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, its so neat to watch them change into little froggies. Do you know what kind of frogs they will be?

Hey..

Anyway you might want to take a look here..

New Tadpole Owner - talk to the frog

There is some nice info on toadlets here.

Also if you go here...

You can see a few cool ideas on what they guy did..

I did both ideas he given. I liked the net one, but the jar on on light. The bugs where still to big for the toads.

I recently got a few tadpoles also. Never did do this before so I am sharing with you what I have learned so far.

Also when they get a tad bigger try and look for termites.. They seem to like them alot...

Also buy some fruit flies online if you can..

eBay Seller: nutri-bugs: Pet Supplies, Home Garden items on eBay.com
^^ This guy on ebay sells them really cheap.. I got 6 32 oz containers for 24 or 5 bucks..

Anyway I hope this helps you in some way.

Re: I Got Tadpoles

Oh how exciting :]]]]
I love tadpoles.
My friend James has a lake, and with lakes come frogs, and with frogs, obviously come tadpoles.
And itty bitty froggies.
Gosh, I love them to death.
lol, I like flipped out when I caught a teeny froggy that still had a tail.
It was adorable.

Liz, when you say "drop their tails," do you literally mean they fall off?
Or do they just gradually get smaller then disappear?
