Re: Meet Oscar!

Thanks! I know he is sooo little. He loves his water bowl and just chills in there a lot. I fed him his first 2 crickets last night and he tore them up.

Re: Meet Oscar!

Ok Oscar isn't moving around very much (that I can see) and he isn't attacking crickets like I've been reading he should do. Is this because he is new and needs time to adjust?

Re: Meet Oscar!

Can you tell us about your tank?

Mainly what are the temps/humidity?

He may need more hiding places to feel secure.

Re: Meet Oscar!

I put a pic of my tank up where all the pics were. The temps are room temperature, like not any lights to make it hot.

Re: Meet Oscar!

fire belly toads like temps around 70 degrees, so room temp is good.

That substrate needs to go. The little rocks are not good for him. Pick up a brick of coconut husk for the bedding.

He could use a larger water dish. Try for a pie plate sized one. FBTs are semi-aquatic and like to swim. Also sink the dish further down so its level with the ground so its easier for him to get into. Are you using treated water?

He also could use a few more hiding places. Pick up another plant or two. They also really like those half logs that are hollow.

Last but not least, FBTs are social animals and need companions. I'd pick him up a friend. 2 are just dandy in a 10 gallon tank.

Hope this helps.

Re: Meet Oscar!

That helped a lot. I'm using tap water with a couple drops of dechlorination (like for fish). I live about 45 minutes from a Petco so next week I'll go there and get another one, a log, and new substrate. I've already pushed most of my gravel up to the water bowl, so I might just put water in to that height to make it semi aquatic so I'll post pics of it when I'm finished with it. Thanks!
