Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
Just to clarify. If your local water system uses chlorine, letting it sit for 24 hours will work. However if they use Chloramine (chlorine mixed with ammonia) It will not evaporate and will require the use of a chemical dechlorinator. Or you can go buy a bottle of filtered spring water NOT distilled water, at the local store.

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
I have another question. I just put about four crickets in the tank and I have some leaf and grass litter on the bottom, which I would belief to be a good hiding place for them should I take that out so Fred can find them if he decides to eat or will the vegetation cover be alright? I also thought that would help me count to see just how many are still in there. I am afraid, though, that this will leave the cage a little bare and even more uncomfortable for my toad.

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
i'd leave the leaf litter in. if you mist the tank with water from a water bowl, the crickets will move and you will be able to see what is around.

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
I'm phsyced. he hasn't eaten anything yet, but he has went to one of his favorite hiding places and there was a cricket there. He seems to be waiting on it to move and I can't wait to see what happens. I know this sounds little, but it's the closest I seen him come to eating. O.K. I might be over reacting, but I can't help but get my hopes up; you know. How long should I wait to see if he's going to eat before I release him back out? Keep your fingers crossed because I've already grown attached to him.
I just got Fred out to show him to my cousin and I noticed this tiny white spot around his right front shoulder area, would any body know what this spot might be. I don't if I'll be able to or not but I'll try and get a picture of it and his "deformities". Right now, though, I'm going to leave him alone to see if he will eat. |

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
Ok, if you want him to eat, you have GOT to leave him alone. No taking him out of his tank for anything. If you haven't put paper or something over 3 sides of the tank, do it now. He won't eat if you keep bugging him. the only time you should be going in there is to put in crickets and freshen up food.
If you want to know what is wrong with him (deformities), I would take him to a herp vet!

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
Thanks. I'll definantly leave him alone. What sides of the cage should be covered and would it be alright to watch through the glass or should I completely move away from the cage? Besides crickets what other food's should be in with him?

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
i'm assuming he is in a standard tank. Cover up the two short sides and one long side. You can leave the viewing side open, the cover on the others make him feel more secure. You can check on him through the glass, just don't sit there and stare at him 24/7.
Crickets are fine for now. If you have mealies and a mealie escape proof dish, you could put some in there as well.

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
Would computer paper taped around the outside due or should it be something thicker? Also, when he settels in can I remove the paper or should it be permenate? I got my hopes up today because I went to look a few times to see if any crickets were "MIA"
and Out of the four I put in there I only saw three and then only two. Then a little later I went to check again and I spotted all four of those snicky rascels![]() |

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
computer paper will be fine, newspaper, magazines, anything really. I use aquarium background since its nicer looking. Eventually you can take one side off, so you have a long and a short covered, but they really need that to feel secure.

Re: My Toad Refuses to Eat :(
One more question about the cage setup. I have it in my room and I am constinly going in and out of it, turring the light on and off, and basically doing things that I know would bug me if I were in a cage trying to kick back and relax
Should I put him in a quieter room where he would be less desturbed? Also, on hybrination, during the winter months, since it is a wild caught frog, should I release it back outside or will it be alright in the cage? I have read mixed views on this and would like some of yall's views. |
