Cleaning Hard Water Stains

Hey there everyone!! I, still being a novice at frogs & toads, have another newbie question. I have had my fire-bellied toad setup for several months now. It is a half & half system with about 4" of water divided off from the same depth of gravel. I just added a new fake rock/plant piece and covered 90% of the land side with moss. The frogs LOVE it!! They are all over the moss like its a hot tub!! My questionis this, is there a non-toxic completely harmless cleaner that I can use to get the chalky white residue off the glass? I've tried just scrubbing it off with newspapers, a 10% vinegar solution, eco-friendly glass cleaner, almost everything under the sun that seems to be animal safe. It comes back as soon as the product dries!! Is there anything that will prevent it from coming back??!!

BTW I use room temp, de-chloro water treated with aqua-safe and allowed to set out for at least 24 hours before using it.

Re: Cleaning Hard Water Stains

buy a lemon or lime, cut it into slices, rub them on the stains and rinse them off. the acid in the fruit juice should dissolve the minerals left behind by the water.

as for preventing it, the only thing you could do is use reverse osmosis water to remove everything in it so you have completely pure water. even that wont be perfect though due to minerals coming out of stuff in the tank.

Re: Cleaning Hard Water Stains

next time, just be sure to wipe down the glass after spraying with a paper towel. It will help keep the buildup away.
