I am really curious about keeping a salamander at some point in the future but I am not sure how large a tank one would need or what kind of heat set up they need......I just wanna know a good breed to start off for someone that is still fairly new to keeping herps such as I am.

  2. I would say a Fire Bellied Newt. It's just like a Salamander and they're so cool

  3. I would say a Tiger Salamander or Fire Bellied Newt. They both have relatively simple care, but the reason I said both is because Tiger Salamanders aren't in water (but still need a form of moisture to survive) while Newts are mostly aquatic. So in the end it's really preference. Remember, Do your research before you buy!:D

One last thing. If you just want something to look at then these guys are fine, a Newt more so, but if you want something to handle, while you shouldn't do it often and you must always wash your hands or wear gloves preferably, that's more the Tiger Salamander.
