Yes I do have pictures but I can't post them. If you have an email I can send them directly to you.

So we've been out all afternoon looking at cages and stuff. I saw some cute bay corns at PetSmart...but I have heard such bad things about PetSmart animals. I am thinking I should wait until the expo this weekend and get one from a breeder...does anyone have any thoughts either way on this?

I would DEFINITELY wait and get one at the expo...not only will you pay considerable LESS at an expo, odds are you will have a much healthier animal, and a MUCH wider selection of morphs and ages to choose from.

Well, we've worked out the expenses and the 3.5 hr drive, admission, parking, etc is a lot more expensive. I am also a little worried that if I did get one at the expo, that if he got sick I would have no recourse. PetSmart offers a guarantee and the snakes have been feeding regularly. So I think we are going to take our chances with it! I am very excited...we have been to so many pet stores today!

thanks so much for all the advice!

If you do go with petsmart, don't forget to read the fine print on the return policy!! They usually say must be seen by a vet within so many days for the snake to be guaranteed. My brother just went threw that with a $600 cat and has thus far spend over $1000 in vet bills and will continue to have problems with her until she has finished a 2 year of medication to get rid of a rare type of parasite. All in all I think getting a pet from a breeder is a great way to go. Just my opinion!

The expo will have breeders who will I'm sure honour their health guarantee of their snakes.
Here is one breeder who is at the show, just contact them and ask any questions that you may have.

Personally I would wait myself. The expo should have a lot better selection to choose from and you will actually be able to talk to the breeder and know what they are eating how often and when they were last fed. The vast majority of people at Petsmart would be lucky if they could tell you when they recieved the shipment!
And the vendors at expos KNOW that herp people talk to each other! If they are selling unhealthy animals and they realize the word will quickly spread and their goes THEIR business!
In all my years of buying at expos I had one situation where I ended up with some unhealthy animals. And the vendor had no issue with replacing them.
Besides, Expos are a lot of fun. You get to see things that you never run across at petstores, including different color varieties of corns. And most of the vendors are more than happy to bend your ear about their snakes.

I think you are underestimating what is available at an expo. You will have hundreds of cornsnakes to choose from, all in different colours and morphs. Not to mention their are usually some pretty reputable breeders at expo's and the cost of the snakes are much cheaper. Also you can get tanks and equipment at expo's probably much cheaper than any petstore would offer them.

We got him! Petsmart had a detailed log of when the snake was received as well as every time it's been fed, whether it ate or not. They got him in mid-October. He didn't eat for the first three weeks, but has eaten 1-3 pinkies every week he has been fed since. He's really cute and looks great. Petsmart also has a return policy, which I don't get from a breeder I met at an expo 120 miles away. It was also a lot cheaper than driving a few hours plus paying admission for two to the show.

    I'll post pictures soon. Yay!!

I know, I really wanted to go to the expo...but it's so far and when I saw the normal at Petsmart and saw how cute he was I just had to have him. If the expo was closer to us, we would definitely have waited and went to see what was offered there. After a long discussion, we decided that it wasn't really feasible.

You have all been so helpful! Thanks a million. :)
