I have been checking out a field herp forum, and I keep seeing "Lifer"... Does this mean one you have been searching for your whole life? One you keep for the life of the animal?

I feel more comfortable asking here than over there.

    Thanks!

what is a field her forum?

In my house lifer means one that will reside here for the rest of his or her life. King Arthur was a lifer in my rescue, Grizzly is a lifer here. Basically not adoptable, or has such high needs that they are better off staying in the rescue.
    Hope that helps a little

When people use the term "lifer", they are referring to certain species that they personally had never found before. Its almost as if they are saying "first in my life".
