Three Striped Mud Turtle

Discussion in 'Turtles' started by ManhattanReptiles, Aug 1, 2014.

  1. Hi. I'm going to be getting two or three Three Striped Mud Turtles to go in one aquarium. I have two questions.

    1. I've read that I don't need to feed them standard turtle food. Just a wide variety of other things. Is this true?

    2. What size (age) should I get them at?

    Thanks guys

You can feed them commercial turtle food, as well as earthworms, insects and fish. You can offer them some veggies/greens, they would probably eat that too. These guys aren't picky eaters.
I would house them in the largest aquarium you can, for three I'd do a 50 gal, but two might be alright in a 20 gal.
As for what age, they can live for 50 years, the record is 54, so age wise is up to you. Adults would be more forgiving to environmental mistakes, so maybe start looking for a group of adults or juveniles.
