I used to have an interest in the many "freshwater" crabs available in the pet trade, but I found them too much of a pain to house. I may go back to keeping them someday. Both links provided above will provide you with good information on keeping them. The two biggest mistakes people do is

    1. Keeping them in 100% fresh water, rather than brackish

    2. Keeping them in an all-water aquarium, rather than giving them land as well (sand is best)

Avoid those two mistakes and you'll already be giving him a better life than most captive red-clawed crabs. Remember that they hail from a brackish habitat in the wild, and they breathe air. Without land and brackish water, your crab will die early.

As for the correct taxonomy of the species, they are either Sesarma bidens or Perisesarma bidens. I'm still not sure which is correct. The second caresheet provided you also reflects that confusion.
