I've been planning this enclosure for the last few months. Finally I have started it this past week.
The final look will be somewhat like this.

There will be rolling doors on the front. I finally found some track I could afford. Cost me $90 with taxes and shipping.

So far I have made the front and side frames

I'll make updates as it goes along. Probably every couple of weeks or so.

The frame were made quite easily on only a tablesaw.
Just making the rails and then cutting a slot for the panels to slide into.
There is a groove in the back routered out for glass.

This is a pic of the base units for the bottom. They have face frames attached for extra stability.

Actually after enlarging it looks to be 4'4" x 6'6" x 2'. Pretty impressive.

That's one of the quirks to my yahoo browser.
If I click on the picture it actually reduces it!

It's going in our family room. As long as it looks real nice and matches, says my wife.
Probably the first one I'm not in a real hurry to finish.
I won't need it for about 3 months. So you'll have to be patient with me.;)

I normally don't do this, for good reason.
Anyway I figured out what my costs will be on the habitat.

    Tempered 24 x 36 glass doors $60 (I got a really good price)

    Aluminum sliding track $100

    2 sheets .75 plywood $100
    (cabinet grade)

    Finishing cost $100
    (done in our spray booth)

    Extras $100
    (epoxy,paint,styrofoam,mortar,lamps)

Gees, almost $500. That`s why I usually don`t figure it out.

Everything needing to be sprayed is at the spray booth. I should get it back next week sometime(hopefully)
Next I need to figure out the door size so I can order the glass. It will take 4 weeks to get it.

LOL! Yeah sometimes you are pleasantly surprised that it didn't cost nearly as much as you think it did.:)
But other times you get that "OMG" reaction!

Finishing booth got it completed ahead of time.
Here's a pic of the top put together.
The screws will be covered with matching screw caps.
I'll be planning the foam background and figuring out the glass sizes for the doors.
I would like to get some foam that's denser than the white styrofoam sheeting.
    Any suggestions on that?

What kind of monitors are going in there? I am planning on building an enclosure for my ackies soon so this is great!

The only thing I can think of is the sheets of blue or pink foam. There is also some stuff called wedi board that is foam board but is sturdy and waterproof. It has a coating on it. I think it holds up to 300 pounds.

This is for my tristis. Ackies wouldn't require as much height.
    I have my Ackies in a 4 ft x 2 ft x 30 h enclosure.

Thanks Nate, I looked into the blue sheeting. It's more money than the standard white board. But it is more dense. I figure it would be better for more detailed carving.

Yeah, that shaves a bit better than the white ball kind.
