My son found an alligator lizard while staying with his grandparents and they sent him home with it. I've had lizards before but not this type.

Can anyone tell me if this is male or female?

Also would a 10 gallon tank be ok as there is only one of them?

The tank should be fine. I kept plenty of these. It's very hard to tell if it's a male or female. Especially when they are young. Some advice: keep the lizard in the tank with a UV light and a place to hide. If you don't want to clean the whole cage a lot then use newspaper for flooring. If you don't mind cleaning it a lot use wood chips or some other ground material you find in your backyard. Also line the outside bottom of the tank with vinigar. I know it sounds a bit weird but vinigar will keep ants away from the cage. I actually had an allegator lizard get killed by ants. Make sure no vinigar gets in the cage though. Just on the outside or places around the cage. These lizards are always a bit mean too but just know if you hold them a lot and get them used to you they will eventually not care if you hold them.
