    Yeah, its a genetic mutation. You can get them wingless, or with vestigial wings (shriveled ones that don't work). Or, if you want they come with red eyes or black eyes. lol, I did a little breeding project with them once.

    I always taped the egg sac to the side os a quart mason jar. After they hatch, separate into small delicups. One little trick I used to do was put a piece of fruit inside the enclosure. Have some holes big enuff for fruit flies to get in but the mantid can't get out. When they go in to check out the fruit, they get tagged by the mantis.
