Hi everyone! This is my 1st post. SHould I use the specific bulbs sold in stores for the frogs or will a regular one work to keep the temp up? I have the 2.0 and one for frogs at 60 watts. Also I have a Red Eye with white spots on its back. Are these just their version of freckles or something serious?

    Hi, welcome to Herp Center.
For basic heating requirements normal bulbs work just dandy and are much cheaper.
Since I'm not a frog guy I can't give you advice on those questions.
Someone should be along that can.

RETF do not need UVB so your regular household bulb will work.

Yep, regular bulb is fine, no UVB needed. And the spots are just that, freckles.

While UVB are not needed for gray's - is there any sort of benefit at all to them, even minor? Or is it actually totally unnecessary? Thanks.

I haven't heard of too many frogs NEEDING a UVB bulb. I have ONE frog who had the beginnings of MBD and I placed a 2.0 on him, to aid in his recovery. His counterpart needs no UVB at all. No issues with him.
