    Clamp Lamp -=[ http://www.lowes.com/pd/Bayco-150-Watt-Incandescent Portable-Work-Light/3122291 ]=-

So basicly I want to save seven dollars on a clamp lamp used with a 150w basking bulb. I just want to ask if this lamp is as safe as the ones specificly sold for reptile use. I am worried it can't withstand the heat.

All of my lamps have porcelain sockets. That thing has plastic. I wouldn't use it.

At anything above 60w I won't use plastic sockets, they just don't hold up well. There is certainly nothing wrong with using hardware store items, as most of the domes marketed for reptiles are simply repainted hardware store domes, but especially for that high a wattage you need to look for a dome with a ceramic socket. You may be able to go to a feed store and get a brooder lamp, which is really just a larger dome with a ceramic socket.
