im buying from a breeder and want to make sure they are not selling me a red tail....
looks like a hogg to me, they are considered a redtail if im correct though, hard to find a true %100 hogg, has been said they are pretty much extinct
yea ...they look a LOT alike, but i know the difference in size is BIG!!!
there are a lot of sub-species of redtail, ranging in sizes, if my memory serves me correctly hoggs get to five or six feet but are still heavy bodied, i may be wrong though, someone will come along that knows more im sure
If the breeder gives you a vibe that they might be lying, find another one!
You can always check out faunaclassifieds and see if there are any unhappy buyers from him.

I try to follow my gut feeling.
Definitely looks like a hogg to me. Usually red tails have MUCH brighter reds on their tails...
Its not to great of a cross. Hogs have a almost faded patrtern to them and also lots of black flakes.
i should have remembered that, supposedly my columbian has hogg in her, but im not holding my hreath, but she does have the speckles in excess to any other columbian ive seen
they are completely extinct in the wild.
only exist in captivity now.
which oddly doesn't seem to effect their value at all.
