Hognose Ownership

    It never fails to amaze me when I see local species being bred and sold as popular pets! I had no idea that hognoses were semi-popular pets, and was surprised when I saw one in the classified section on here for $150! Here in Virginia they are commonly killed, mistaken for copperheads by people who have never seen one. Very neat snakes though.

    The great thing about them is that they don't require huge long expensive aquariums. I like the albinos.

    The one our local park owned was an eastern hognose that had some beautiful coloration, yellows and reds and whathaveyous. I think it had some problems going from toads and things to mice- do you know if there are problems like this with captive born ones or is that just a wild caught thing?

    Captives will switch over to scented mice with ease.

    They usually start off on frogs, fish etc.
