I am in the process of building a ball python enclosure. I can't seem to find out which i should use. Heat tape is definitely cheaper but I'm not sure how much I will need to heat the hot side while keeping ambient temperature at good levels and heat mats seem better protected. The enclosure is 4x2x2. I've already figured out how I am putting either of them in so it will be completely sealed in and dry I just need help figuring out which to use and i know i will have to use a thermostat or rheostat for either.

Personally, I don't feel comfortable wiring heat tape. I have been really happy with my Ultratherm heat pads from Heating - Undertank Heaters - The Bean Farm. They come in much bigger sizes than regular heat pads.

I don't have qualms with wiring since my other half knows all about it. My only issue is with a heat mat I've got to pay probably 40 dollars for it then a thermostat.. I'm just not sure on which would be better for my application.

Another option for me might be big apple pet supplies flexible heat rope but I'm not sure.
