I read that Pine is toxic.

The hide would go in a humid tank for a Fire Skink.

I've had the hide for a year now and I don't even smell the pine anymore but I might be used to it.

I don't want her to develop a URI.

They are kiln dried, like the pine shavings, so most of the harmful oils have evaporated. I like the "smell" test, if it smells like a Christmas tree it's not safe. I use them in a couple different enclosures and have not had an issue with them.

Thank you for the quick reply. I know the shavings are a giant NO NO according to a science article... but then again I'm just not sure. I read that if the Pine gets wet, it releases fumes that can cause URI.

There is a lot of really bad advise floating around out there. Pine resin is not water soluble.

So what do you suggest? Should I use it since it's supposedly kiln dried? Or just not take a chance.

I have used them in the past. They are fine.
