Hi. I just want to know what you think of my clawed frog, is he to skinny?
He is eating guppies, around 20 a week plus the babies that they have. The babies are so little they are just a snack for him. He is in a 10 gallon with guppies. He was living with a sliver molly and since I took her out and put her into her new tank he has slowed down on eating. do you think he slowed down because he misses her? I didn't want her to get eaten so I put her in a 20 gallon with other fish. Should I put her back with the frog until he gets big enough to eat her? His water temp is 80 degrees it always has been since I got him. I did get a new filter because the tank water was cloudy alot. I would get it clear and then in about a week it would cloud up again. I put a bio wheel type filter. Could that be stressing him? Or do you think that he is just sick of guppies? What else can I feed him? I had him on brine shrimp and then feeder shrimp but he stopped eating them too about 2 months ago, that is when I started feeding the guppies.
Please let me know what you think I should do? He hasn't eaten any guppies in 3 days that is why I am concerned. Also I think he is a she I enclosed a pic. Maybe you could tell me if I am right that he is a she.
Thank you in advance and sorry so long I just love my little guy or girl and want to make sure that he or she is eating. I just don't know what his/her problem could be.
    Thanks,
    Cheryl
I will try to get better pics. tonight. I was running late this morning and hurried up to take the pics.

    Hello,

Those frogs are very cool looking. lol I don't know much about them, so I am not good for advice. Initially I was thinking that the eating slowed down because the frog doesn't have any "competition" now. I am not sure how social these frogs are though so I can't say with certainty that he is lonely.

Hopefully someone with some experience with this species will be along shortly to toss some advice or thoughts out there.

Can't say that I'm an expert or anything. But we had two African Clawed frogs (one albino and one green). The albino seem to be the dominate of the two and the bigger. They were housed together and seemed happy. They were fed on frog food. Everything was great until Miss Piggy (the Albino) ate Kermit. So much for true love;)

From what I can tell from your pictures, your "he" is actually a "she" (females have that extended cloaca, males do not). I can guarantee she doesn't miss the molly. How large are the guppies? Full grown guppies are good food for an ACF, but they're not exactly large. If the filter puts a lot of noise or movement in the water, that could be stressful. ACF's like still ponds. Also, variety is always good in the diet. Try adding gutloaded crickets, other small fish, pinky mice, mealworms, superworms, and thawed krill. I don't think your frog is too thin yet, but some change in diet and a reduction in water disturbance should increase appetite.

He?She might not be showing as much feeding behavoir with out the movment of the molly to catch his eye maybe? I use whisper filters for my frogs since they seem to be the quitest i can get, I have 2 frogs in a 20 long and a froglet in a ten gellon both with whisper filters. mine take repto-min, live crickets, live guppies, chiclid pellets, frozen bloodworms, and one likes shrimp pellets.
I would be surprise to see an ACF that wont take frozen(or probably live) bloodworms. mine just go nuts for them.
I've also given them a bit of plain cocktail shrimp as a treat which they loved.
how big is your frog ?

Hi thanks for responding. I thought that he was starting to look like a she. Anyway I changed the filter to this http://www.petco.com/Shop/Product.a...2&N=24+112+30+10121&sku=587982&familyID=6314& and gave her feeder shrimp. She ate them up before they hit the bottom of the tank. So I guess she was sick of the guppies. Now I have set up little tanks for her feeder to live in so that I can buy more at a time and have different foods for her to eat. She will only eat live things. I have tried the frozen blood worms she won't touch them. I think I will try crickets and see what happens.
Thanks again for the advice I am just glad that she is now back to her pot bellied look and she seems happy now.

    hi
I have a female ACF. She eats large goldfish. I actually got her at walmart sold as a dwarf...needless to say she is the only living thing left. I also feed her mealworms, sometimes crickets. Also, I think it may be a female, but I need better pics to be sure. The males are usually smaller than the females. Also, the females have a small, tube like area between the legs. I am glad it is doing better.
Here are pics of mine =)
