So I was thinking about getting a het caramel aft from the crested gecko and maybe a male to pair it with. My question is can I pair two geckos for breeding or do I have to have a colony of three or more geckos?

You can pair two geckos for breeding, but I would not advise doing so until after they've both been properly quarantined separately, and until breeding season begins (around March). You don't need a colony, and you actually increase your risk of stress/injury to your geckos by housing more than one together.
