Zena vs. Freya
How do you tell your lizards to just get along? Zena & Freya are always giving each other the "if looks could kill, you'd be dead" stare. Zena's cage is in my bedroom, as I still haven't gotten things rearranged in the living room. She will always be in the bedroom I think. I bring Freya in to feed her (she still wants to be hand fed at least 2 times a day), and Zena has to start with the noises and dirty looks! Now Zena wants to be hand fed too! Oh well, at least Freya is getting used to the little dog (Pomeranian), she had a little dog where she used to live that upset her all of the time. Currently Freya is sitting on me, making chucking noises and frilling out every time someone comes near my room, she's afraid she'll have to go back to her cage. I will have to put her back soon, as Selmac the boa wants to come out tonight for some quality time.

Re: Zena vs. Freya
I think my frogs just want to be left alone. I miss my bearded dragon. He wanted to be with me always.

Re: Zena vs. Freya
Bearded Dragons are much more social than frogs. Ours used to like to ride around on shoulders, or like they were a large pin on your shirt. My snakes and lizards make it pretty clear when they want to come out. I am used to interpreting for my sheep, so it makes it easier to figure out the others I think. We try to socialize everyone though. I take them to schools and the girls took them to fair this summer, it helps if they've been well socialized. My girls have all had to take a class at college called ethology which is the behavior roles of animals in a community. How they react, and interact, or not. The girls have always watched how the horses and sheep decide who is the leader and who is the follower. Interesting stuff! My reps would be out 24/7 if I would allow it.

Re: Zena vs. Freya
Ethology is a Very interesting study, one of the classes im looking foward to when pursuing my major, well actualy I think im looking foward to all the animal classes, just not quite the math, *laugh* None of my reptile's really Like being held all that much really, the Schneider tolerates it for awile, the gecko's out of the question, ive come to terms with the fact I may never touch him, i think the poor guy'd die of stress if I did. One day i'll have a Savannah Monitor though, i hope i'll get him to the point of enjoying being held.

Re: Zena vs. Freya
Critter would like to be out all the time but doesn't have the good sense to know when he is getting cold or needs his UVB light. So I have to keep track of what's going on with him and make sure he goes back in when he needs to. He doesn't roam free in the house. Too many other animals and it's too cold.
When he is out he mostly wants to get on top of his cage and just sit there. He'll spend all day there if I let him. Soon I'm going to get another mega ray so he can have a basking spot outside his cage.

Re: Zena vs. Freya
I think its great how we "owners" (sometimes I wonder who owns WHO!) know what to do with our reptiles. I have to laugh at the "LOOK AT ME" I can totally relate! My Chinese Water Dragon is the same way I even know what the stink eye that she gives me means!

Re: Zena vs. Freya
Yes, they all know how to make it quite clear what they want. Some times it takes quite a bit of work to get them to be "hand friendly". Others take to it very easily. I agree with Critters Mom, some of mine don't want to give up their out of cage time to go back to their heat and UVB. So we have to watch them closely. Even with 160 sheep, they are all my babies and get treated like royalty! LOL Some insist I give them belly rubs or back rubs when they're pregnant! I had one that used to come over and want me to sit on the plastic crate so she could rest her pregnant belly on my lap! My sophmore daughter didn't care for math class either Ryan. But they really hated Organic Chemistry.
