Substrate

Hello. I kno everyone says sand is very bad but I think some of my geckos don't like the carpet. For example the two I have just taken in almost a 2 or 3 weeks ago and I have noticed them losing weight. Before I had gotten them they were 2 years old and kept on sand. I now have them on carpet and I think they HATE it. I was looking to use a very fine grain play sand. Would this be okay? They are both well above 75 grams!

Your going to get many answers to this questions,,some you may not want to hear, this debate has been beaten to death. Just check out some old threads. The best advice is to use you own judgement and opinion.

Personally I choose to not use sand.

To read further into what other people do please read these old threads. This is common question and there is no sense in making everyone answer it over and over:

Oatmeal as substrate

Fine Sand

Calcisand?

I prefer to keep substrate as close to their natural environment as possible for all reptiles. I would say this approach is not for those just entering the reptile hobby though.
