Big Viv Substrate

Okie.. so construction has begun!!
SOOO EXCITED!
I'm actually about halfway done with my big viv for the Bearded Dragon and the Chinese Water Dragon.
I have some questions though...
I use reptile carpet in their tanks? Do you guys recommend using it in the bigger vivs too?
Also, I was cleaning out my Bearded Dragon tanks today and I have rocks in there. Apparently some of the crickets escape the wrath of the Bearded Dragons and they hide under the rocks. NOT GOOD, I don't want them biting my little ones!
How can I fix this?
I posted this to Herp Habitats too so see what everyone there says too

For the Bearded Dragons you might try using tile in the big cages, it keeps the nails nice and short and is easy to clean.
As for the crickets you should get a big sterilite container and feed them their crickets in there, its alot more fun than chasing crickets at 3am with a sharpened pencil because they wont shut up!

OMG LACEY! How did you know?
Last night I was going to LOSE MY MIND!
I was just going to wait cause she's moving into a new big tank of Sunday but I couldn't do it anymore!I seriously felt like I was going to go insane!
*chirp... chirp*
It's how I knew I had a problem.
They don't like eating out of anywhere that isn't "home"..
I have a 15 gallon that I use as a temporary housing tank, when I'm cleaning tanks and I tried using it for feeding and they just kinda sat there and pawed at the glass to get out!
They're spoiled.
Maia will let me hand feed her. But the baby is still too skittish.
**** Bearded Dragons.
What kind of tile do you recommend using? Wouldn't tile be too slippery for them?

Hmmm...i think most people use slate tile...

I use slate that I found while hiking last summer so its got rough edges and stuff on it. I've also used that black fabric stuff that you put down under flower beds and stuff to keep the weeds from coming through...

Also yeah I know the whole chasing the crickets thing well....after a few times being left in the tub with the crickets and not being offered crix anyother time zola caught on and started eeating them!

Haha I have spent many a long night standing quietly in the dark stalking a cricket waiting for it to start chirping again so I can either end its life or capture it and throw it up in my sisters room when its in with her herps it becomes her problem

I swear I felt like I was sleeping outside the other night...
the fan was blowing air, the crickets were chirping, my retarded Boston was snoring.
I took out all the crickets yesterday out of the tank, today- we find the chirper

P.S.
Would Home Depot have slate tile?

It should....I think our home depot actually has it in 12 inch tiles or 4 inch tiles.

i used slate in my water dragon enclosures but not on the bottom I did the walls in it and used lino on the floor which I covered with grout to make it more rigid and and when the glass comes in it will be finished
