So I have a somewhat silly question....
I own a baby red tail... and my friend owns a baby ball python.... is there anyway we could train them/get them to at least tolerate each other (not live w/ each other) or is it dangerous to have them near each other??? Any advice or insight? Also.... anyone have any kewl/funny "snake friendship" stories... or am I just being wishful ![]() |

Re: Can Our Snakes Be Friends?
my friend has two baby colombian boas, they live together. they are sisters, but they totally love each other. when you get them out, they search for each other. he also has an 8 ft colombian and a 4 ft ball, and im pretty sure that they get along.
but I cant offer you much help with your situation. hope it goes well.

Re: Can Our Snakes Be Friends?
I would suggest not mixing species.

Re: Can Our Snakes Be Friends?
It's a nice thought, but snakes don't make friends - not like we do. They don't become emotionally attached. They will tolerate each other, and they will huddle together for warmth and such, but as far as becoming attached or playing with another snake, they won't really do that.
Attaching emotions to them is actually something that us humans do to attempt to understand them better. It's probably best to keep them separate, although certainly taking pictures to share with your friend would be a good thing to do.

Re: Can Our Snakes Be Friends?
as long as you don't keep them together for extended periods. it is fine if you take them out together as long as they are both healthy...you don't want to pass on disease. They won't fight or anything if thats what you are wondering. I have actually just made a huge display setup in a reptile zoo. Gaboons on the floor and green mambas in the trees above...works real well together and looks awesome! Boas and pythoins come from totally different areas/habitats though. sorry going a bit off topic but have reccently enjoyed the idea of multi species displays...where naturally occuring obviosly.

Re: Can Our Snakes Be Friends?
That does sound pretty cool. So long as theres enough space. AS for "playtime" with the snakes, im not sure its really even the best idea to let them play with each other, while they may not mind, there is still the very real threat of diseases and parasites being passed.

Re: Can Our Snakes Be Friends?
At our house, the Boa and the jungle-carpet diamond cross python and the ball python all live together. The ball python is extemely attached to having the others with him. They have been together since they were small. He is a rather insecure freak of a snake. We recently had to separate the ball out for a bit, as all 3 went into shed at the same time, and we know from experience that can be dangerous. He does not do well if put in with any other snake though. He was extremely unhappy alone and so as soon as shed was done, they were back together. The newer ball pythons don't even live together though. The one male is just too aggressive. It all depends on the individual snake and you have to get to know them well. The aggressive male is fine if meeting the others in a communally neutral setting. i.e. we take them in on the big bed and let them all climb around for a few hours together. They all have basically sweet personalities except for that last rescue, and he just needs some work. If you both want to try to be together and have your snakes with you, just keep a close eye on what they are doing so they don't irritate each other too much. Our Tegu and Savannah Monitors like to be out at the same time, but grow bored and quickly start getting into trouble. The Iguana doesn't like to be out with anyone, she even hates the Indian Ring-necked parakeet.
