Sleepy Behavior

Why does my little kingsnake get so 'sleepy'?

I have only had him a few days, tried to feed him every other day to no avail. He is alert and watches me if I hold him however, he isn't very active in his tank.

I am making sure he has fresh water daily also. I try to keep the tempurature around 82. That varies a bit during the course of the day, but that is our standard.

Anyone have an idea about the 'drowsy' attitude?

Re: Sleepy Behavior

It may be stress. I would suggest giving him a week or 2 to get used to his new surroundings. Only go into the tank to change the water and spot clean. Then slowly allow him to get acclimated to you once he is used to his new home.

Re: Sleepy Behavior

Kingsnakes are for the most part much more active at night.
Mine sleep most of the day but I can hear them thumping around early in the morning, late in the evening and at night.

Re: Sleepy Behavior

Yeah, I guess the new environment could have something to do with it. As well as the time of day.

I think I will just watch him awhile and see how he reacts.
