It may be an allergic reaction to the snake's saliva.
I know of a couple of keepers that have similar reaction to cornsnake bites.

It most likely is part allergic reaction seeing my wife is allergic to bee stings.
When she is hand feeding one of our Bearded Dragon's crickets even just loves to grab her finger or nip at her rings. The spot where the Bearded Dragon nips at her becomes red and itchy for awhile.
