HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?
This snake and a baby were abandoned in a building. The baby may not make it but this bigger one is MEAN! It's rough like a pine snake, about 3' long. Thanks for any help.

Re: HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?
My first thought was gopher or bull but they have blotches or saddles down the length of them. Not this guy.

Re: HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?
Its not a bullsnake. Maybe some variety of watersnake.

Re: HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?
Thanks Merlin. I was looking at the more common snakes in the pet trade, I've never heard of these guys.
Good news, the baby ate so there's hope.
I'll be using gloves with the bigger one.

Re: HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?
Nerodia usually don't show up in the pet trade. I've never seen one for sale.
Too bad tempered and not a lot to balance that out!
Its more than likely a wild caught snake.

Re: HELP! Can anyone ID this snake?
Good call Merlin. It must have been in captivity since it was born, most watersnakes lose their patterns in the wild when they reach adulthood. And they ARE nasty !!!! They have been offered in the pet trade in the Northeast, at least they were 15 or so years ago. I've never seen one here in the south though. Interesting find !!!!
