Re: new snake.

Id go with the ball... Wonderful snake all around except for the eating issues (doesnt apply to all BP's)

Re: new snake.

BPs are beautiful animals. And since it ain't your first, you might not be as stressed as I hear people can get about the eating issues. Although you might be. Either way, beautiful snakes.

Re: new snake.

I think it will depend on what sort of animal you're looking for. BPs get rather thick and most colubrids stay long and slim.
Also colubrids come in some amazing colors (I'm thinking of Pueblan Milk snakes; kingsnakes, smooth green snakes and the dozens of other corn morphs.)
BPs are night active and some colubrids are day active. BPs will require a bigger terrarium in the long run.
It's worth looking around and seeing what appeals to you.
All that said, I love my ball python to bits. He's good tempered and beautiful, but his eating issues are really frustrating.

We want pics of whatever you decide to get!!

Re: new snake.

"A colubrid" leaves open a vast number of species, some of them VERY different from others!
Colubrids will generally be like your corn, active and always on the move, while the Ball will be a more lazy, hanging out with type of snake. My male BP came very close to being named "Rock", because that was just about his activity level!
In all fairness just looking to get "something" is not the best way to make the choice. I know you will do your research. Read everything you can on all the species that you are leaning toward. Once you know what you will be dealing with and what really interests you then you can make an informed decision. Nobody can make the final choice except you.
And of course we will be here for any extra questions that may arise.

Re: new snake.

You should not stop feeding it.
If the snake decides to stop eating is another matter altogether.
And a first year hatchling will probably continue eating thru its first winter.
