So far out of 3 ball pythons, none have given us much trouble about eating, I think we're very lucky. The thing to choosing your next pet is to do your research, and visit some of each kind and make your decision from there. If I'd had money available at the time, I would have bought this sweet little bright green snake (don't recall what type now) from a dealer from Wisconsin a few years ago. I totally fell in love with it, it was very sweet and curled around my arm and settled in for awhile. Go by what you feel or just wait until you feel it's the "one". Lots of luck.

Re: new snake.

I have to say I love all my snakes. My Bp's aren't the most active but they have personality. Though if I had to choose out of the two groups and I didn't need a male Boa. I would get me a pair of Hognosed snakes, all bark no bite, small, beautiful, and active.

Re: new snake.

I own a ball python and a California Kingsnake. I love both to death and they are compete opposites of eachother. The Ball Python is very laid back, and more active at night. He does seem to be a little reluctant to take his food now and again, but usually if we dangle the rat with tongs and then once he goes to constrict, if we shut the lights off and leave the room, in about 20 minutes he is usually done eating. Hasnt failed yet. The Kingsnake on the otherhand is more active at day, and more active in general. He is excellent when it comes to feeding, takes the mouse right away. He loves to hide in small places, and trying to take him out of his cage he trys to get away but once he is in your hand he doesnt wanna go back in. Overall, they are both perfect snakes. Me personally, im 50/50 on picking one or the other, obviously. I like bigger snakes, but my BP was my first snake so I didnt wanna get something that would get too big too fast. So then after I felt comfortable and wanted another, i got my cali king for christmas from my parents and hes been going great. Later on down the road, i wanna get a common boa. But I wanna wait till we move into a 3 bedroom townhouse in october. The thridroom is my "reptile preserve" lol.
