Yeah, ive been told several times its not a good idea, but whenever we first got our bp and I was handling him, i realized that his eyes were cloudy and couldn't see, but he didnt seem all to scared or aggressive, so me and my wife both decided we would continue to handle him untill one of us gets bit. Its really just an expirement, we never let anyone else handle him during the shedding, because we believe that maybe because he smells our scent and hears our voices, he knows he is in a safe enviroment. Im not a biologist or anything. Ive been a herp owner for a little over 6 months so im in no way an expert. But for that very reason we are expiermenting so that we can learn more about our herps and have a better understanding of reptiles in general.

Re: Merry Christmas Herp Lovers!

No problem! I think I can safely say that we are all learning,...constantly!

Not only can they not see well but during the shedding process they are uncomfortable. Think peeling sunburn! Itchy!
Another reason not to handle during shed is that they are forming new skin under there. If you get a little too rough it can damage the forming skin. A little careful handling is ok as long as you don't overdo it. I generally just leave mine alone during this time.

Re: Merry Christmas Herp Lovers!

Yeah, we dont handle him all day, everyday. I mainly just take him out look at him, check to see how the shedding is progressing and then usually put him back daily.
