Great story!
So, my oldest skink and also my smartest did something that shocked me today.
When she's in the mood and not mad at me, she stands on her back legs and balances to get crickets from tweezers, sometimes jumping to get them in mid air or from the tweezers. An amazing feat in and of itself, especially when you consider that she's in no way hand tame.
Well, today I caught her staring into space, no doubt plotting the demise of my girlfriend (she HATES my girlfriend, glares at her for hours but does that to nobody else). I showed her a cricket on tweezers, she immidiately snapped to attention. After she mauled two crickets, I decided she should do her trick just so she doesn't get lazy on me. She went up half way and she missed because I won't give it to her for a half-a**** attempt. Well, she looked at me with those intelligent eyes, looked back to the cricket and then opened her mouth WIDE and made a very audible noise (like a sneeze mixed with a click) that she normally makes when she's mad with her mouth closed. Since she did it in the direction of the cricket and opened her mouth when it wasn't needed, I think she was actually begging for the food (or demanding it, as her case would be). I immediately gave her that one, which she caught in mid-air. I thought I could get her to do it again, but instead of going for the cricket in any way, she looked at me like I was a total idiot and walked away, obviously full and disgusted with me for not realizing it.
Neat eh? I swear, she needs a camera on her 24/7, cept whenever I do plant a hidden camera, she doesn't do anything!
