    Baby Fire Skinks

Some knew I had several fire skink eggs that I acquired from petco about a month and a half ago. Well they have started to hatch and I have 2 pictures to share.

I was fortunant and caught a baby emerged but not out yet. This is actually the 3rd hatchling as he makes his way into the world.

Here are the first 2 little guys that had hatched overnight.

There are currently 4 of the little guys already out. One egg hasn't hatched, but it has begun to sweat so I suspect within the next hour or 2 I should see some signs of him emerging as well.

I will try to grab pictures of everyone later on. The first 2 that had hatched have already started eating, so it appears they are off to a good start.

If anyone is wondering, that substrate is coconut bedding similar to bed-a-beast. I got these eggs when I was working at petco and found them in the AM at the beginning of my shift. To protect them, I tossed them in a Beta bowl with some dampened coconut bedding to prevent them from drying out and so I could heat them. I never transferred them from the container or the bedding. They went straight into the incubator. (84 degrees for those that want to know.)

Hopefully I will have more pics tonight.

Adorable, I've always loved the mid-sized skinkies.

    Re: Baby Fire Skinks

I tried to get more pics, but it doesn't look as if any of them came out very well. (I am not a very good photographer, lol)

I didn't want to stress them out, so I was trying to get pictures in their housing. They thought it was a better idea to just run around manically which made blurry pictures really easy to get. I will try again in a day or two.

The last egg hatched last night and the last little guy was waiting for me this morning.

It really is hard to believe that all that critter came from that tiny egg... Makes you think of a clown car with how cramped they must have been.

Very cute little guys Rich, Congrats!
